What We Provide

Compassionate Hearts trained volunteers offer comfort, connection, and practical help to people with a life limiting illness and  their families and Carers. As each person is different, individual needs and preferences are considered in service provision. The types of volunteer support available includes:

Companionship
When people are unwell their opportunities for social interaction may be impacted and feelings of boredom, loneliness or isolation may be experienced. ChoB volunteers are available to offer companionship in the home. Volunteers may spend time with the person through regular visits. Depending on the person's interests, visits may be for a chat and a cuppa, reading, completing puzzles or board games, playing music or anything else of interest.

Respite
Carers may find it difficult to leave a loved one alone so that errands can be carried out, or to enjoy their own time out in the community. Volunteers are available to stay in the home to allow carers to leave with peace of mind that their loved one is being supported.

Socialisation
Due to illness some people may find it difficult to participate independently in their usual social activities. Volunteers may be able to assist them in transporting and/or participating in their usual activities of interest within the community, or even trying something new.

Pet Care
Sometimes furry friends can be impacted by a person's illness. Volunteers can assist with pet care and dog walking

Small Errands and Household Assistance
Volunteers are available to help with small jobs such as picking up prescriptions, changing a light bulb etc.

Transport
Volunteer assistance is available to assist people to get to their appointments

Legacy Work
Trained volunteers are available to assist people to document their life story, participate in Dignity Therapy or complete a life legacy project.

Bereavement Support
Monthly peer support coffee and walking groups are available for bereaved carers. These groups are supported by CHoB volunteers and run  in conjunction with the Bellarine Community Health Social Worker.
